Turning Deadstock into Desire: The Story Behind Syrup Underwear

What if your lingerie could tell a story?
Syrup Underwear is a Byron Bay label creating intimate, handmade pieces from vintage and deadstock lace — founded by model-turned-designer Tegan Dermek, and built with purpose from the very first stitch.

Handmade. Heartfelt. One-of-a-kind.

Every Syrup piece is:

  • Sewn on a vintage Bernina machine

  • Hand-dyed in a small Byron Bay studio

  • Made from deadstock and vintage lace

No mass production. Just slow, soulful fashion.

What Makes It Interesting

Fast fashion wasn’t cutting it.
Tegan couldn’t find underwear that aligned with her values:

  • Ethical

  • Comfortable

  • Beautiful

So she created her own — and started a movement in mindful lingerie.

The Problem It Solves

Lingerie with less waste and more meaning.

  • Sourcing vintage fabrics keeps textiles out of landfill

  • Small-batch production supports local industry

  • Each piece is intimate, unique, and rooted in intention

The Impact

We’re craving connection, not consumption.
Syrup stands for more than style — it’s about:

  • Feeling seen in what you wear

  • Valuing craft over trends

  • Choosing better for the planet
