ELK Partners with BlockTexx® to Lead Australia’s Circular Fashion Movement
ELK Partners with BlockTexx® to Lead Australia’s Circular Fashion Movement
Melbourne-based brand ELK has announced a circular fashion partnership with textile recycling innovator BlockTexx®.
This collaboration marks an Australian-first initiative, where ELK’s end-of-life garments are responsibly processed and transformed into valuable materials for the manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
Addressing the Growing Challenge of Textile Waste
Textile waste is a significant environmental challenge, with millions of tonnes discarded into landfills each year.
Traditional recycling methods primarily focus on single-fibre fabrics like 100% cotton or polyester, leaving blended fabrics — commonly used in the fashion industry — untouched.
This limitation highlights the need for advanced recycling solutions capable of handling the complexities of blended textiles.
The Problem
ELK has taken a significant step toward sustainability by partnering with BlockTexx®. Together, they are creating a new pathway for garments that have reached the end of their lifecycle.
BlockTexx® utilises its patented Separation of Fibre Technology (S.O.F.T.), a process that transforms blended fabrics into two key products: Polytexx® and CellTexx®.
This innovative process diverts garments from landfill, unlocking new possibilities for the circular economy.
The Solution
Progress in Sustainability
To date, nearly 300 ELK garments have been processed at BlockTexx®’s recycling facility, demonstrating the potential to scale this initiative further.
Each garment represents a step forward in reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.
Measuring the Impact
Complementing this partnership is ELK’s (RE)NEW program, which encourages customers to return preloved garments.
Wearable items are repaired or resold through the (RE)NEW collection.
Non-wearable garments are responsibly recycled through BlockTexx®.
This collaboration is a testament to ELK’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
How Can You Participate?
ELK invites its community to be part of this circular fashion initiative by participating in the (RE)NEW program. Here’s how:
Bring any ELK clothing you no longer use to any ELK retail store. All items should be cleaned before drop-off.
If the garments are in wearable condition, you will receive a $10 voucher per item as a thank-you.
For non-wearable items, ELK will find a responsible solution, such as repair or recycling with BlockTexx®.
Wearable items will be sold in select ELK retail stores as part of the (RE)NEW collection, giving them a second life.
A New Standard for Circular Fashion
By pioneering innovative recycling solutions, ELK and BlockTexx® are setting a new standard for circular fashion in Australia.
Customers are invited to join this journey by participating in the (RE)NEW program at ELK retail stores, further contributing to the reduction of textile waste.
What steps will you take today to create a more sustainable tomorrow?
