DESIGN ASSISTANT | RESORT AND SWIM

Our client, a leader in Australian swimwear and apparel, is seeking a Design Assistant to join their passionate design team. This is a rare opportunity to be hands-on across multiple brands, working from concept through to creation, and play a role in the growth of a business that has strong international expansion plans for 2025 and beyond.

The Role

As Design Assistant, you’ll support the flow of design and production activities across a house of brands, ensuring garments move seamlessly from development through to delivery. From assisting with tech packs and CADs, to fabric sourcing, fit sessions, and fashion show preparation, you’ll gain exposure to the full creative and technical design process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with garment development, sampling, and tech pack creation (including grading and detailed CADs).

  • Maintain consistency in sizing, construction, quality, and workmanship with manufacturing partners.

  • Manage strike offs, lab dips, fabrics, trims, and sample records.

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Design team on fabric and trim selection.

  • Liaise with offshore suppliers to source prints, fabrics, and accessories.

  • Participate in fit sessions and provide technical feedback to suppliers.

  • Prepare ranges for photoshoots, fashion shows, and seasonal launches.

  • Provide technical advice to internal teams to support sales and resolve fit issues.

About You

  • 2–3 years’ experience in a similar design or product development role.

  • Strong understanding of tech packs, garment construction, grading, and patterns.

  • Sewing experience highly regarded.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong organisation and communication skills.

  • Tertiary qualification in Fashion Design or equivalent.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Be part of runway shows, in-season launches, and brand activations.

  • Work directly with the Creative Director and collaborate with industry-leading creatives.

  • Access to an ever-expanding brand wardrobe.

  • A supportive environment where you’ll grow your technical expertise and prepare for a future leadership role.
