My client is a major international retail with over 470 stores in Australia and New Zealand. This is an unbelievable opportunity for someone to support driving international licensing strategies and manage the buying department.

The purpose of your role is to purchase goods and merchandise with the aim of maximising sales and gross margin performance. This involves planning, negotiating with vendors, sourcing new products, reviewing existing goods and managing and mitigating inherent financial risks. This role has greater responsibility and accountability than a Buyer, requiring strong people management and leadership skills.

If you hold experience within a large retail business, either in apparel, homewares, gifting, accessories etc., we need to talk! This role is located in Brisbane. My client will offer a salary based off experience as well as a relocation package.


  • Buying: planning, sourcing, selecting and purchasing quantities of goods and merchandise
  • Data analysis and business strategy: assess the performance of products, forecast demand and identify new opportunities and trends to facilitate continued expansion of the brands through licensing.
  • Leadership: empower and lead your team through communication, teamwork and recognition
  • People: provide training, coaching, motivation and support to build a high-performing team. Manage your people for today and for the future.
  • Communication: promote and encourage communication between your team, the rest of the SSC, the field team, and external vendors, in order to drive profitability.


You will need:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in retail buying, planning or merchandising
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to apply analytical and strategic thinking to drive profitability
  • Proven ability to self-manage time and responsibilities while working with autonomy
  • Ability to cope well in high-pressure environment and effectively deal with competing business priorities
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team of
  • Open-minded with positive change management capability
  • A commitment to superior customer service, product and market development
  • When required, willing to travel regularly in order to engage directly with partners
